KTM Superduke Performance Tuning

We greeted the launch and subsequent development of the 950 Superduke motor with great interest because it was immediately apparent that it was a modern racing engine in every way. The 75 degree Vee-twin, with a narrow valve angle, dry sump lubrication and sophisticated 32bit management system incorporates much of Formula One practice. When KTM decided to take it out to the full 999cc, at 101 x 62.4 bore & stroke this was the icing on the cake.

We have now completed our evaluation of the stock motor and are having Carrillo rods and oversize valves made for it. Next thing is a suitable cam, then a custom pipe. We plan to fit larger throttle bodies, with overhead injectors and a Motec management system. This last is necessary to achieve the RPM the motor cries out for and which we need to get the power we are looking for. The motor will be fitted in one of our lightweight tubular chassis and the finished bike should scale around 310-320lbs or 141-145kgs.

Further details in due course.

Well, things are moving along; we have now fitted the copper-beryllium inlet seats and the 42mm titanium inlet valves, the 34mm stainless exhausts and modified the port shapes accordingly. We have the new cams, the Carrillos have arrived and the motor is now built, ready to be fitted in the chassis. We now need to make a suitable exhaust sytem and we have to decide between a big-bore top-end pipe, or something a little more mid-range.

We are making progress, as you can see. Not finished yet by a long way but getting there.
